Use the star / cross order that matches the wheel. Start fasteners by hand. Seat the wheel flush on the hub before final torque. Recheck after 25–50 miles. Confirm against the vehicle placard and handbook.

Workshop checks

When to torque: every time a wheel is off — tyres, punctures, seasonal swap, brakes.

Seat first: the wheel must sit flush on the hub. Dirt or rust under the wheel means the wrench number is meaningless.

Match the seat: conical, ball/radius and flat/washer seats are not interchangeable. Thread size alone is not enough.

Recheck: after 25–50 miles check the same figure again. Do not add extra Nm.

Conicaltapered cone — angle must match the wheel
Ball / radiusrounded seat — common on some OEM alloys
Flat / washerflat clamp, often with a shank and washer
