Workshop checks

When to torque: every time a wheel is off — tyres, punctures, seasonal swap, brakes.

Seat first: the wheel must sit flush on the hub. Dirt or rust under the wheel means the wrench number is meaningless.

Match the seat: conical, ball/radius and flat/washer seats are not interchangeable. Thread size alone is not enough.

Recheck: after 25–50 miles check the same figure again. Do not add extra Nm.

Conicaltapered cone — angle must match the wheel
Ball / radiusrounded seat — common on some OEM alloys
Flat / washerflat clamp, often with a shank and washer
